 As a singer/songwriter, Rawan loves to experiment with expression. As a solo artist, she has been creating and releasing her own original bilingual music in multiple genres with different producers worldwide. She co-founded multiple projects springing out of Jordan including but not limited to SemaZen (Interactive Spiritual Music Project), and Qamarjan (Nomadic World Music Project). Everything she does is marked with authenticity, soulfulness and charisma.

My Trauma Taught Me

My trauma taught me
That everything has a crack
That being human has its gapes
That some hide their shadows deep
While others are covered by them, feeling incomplete
That to really be whole
Is to recognize, accept, and even embrace the holes
That the rips, tares and tears shape and mould 
Into the shape of all you’ve been told
That the unhealed pain is a contagion
Spreading by repeated patterns through intergenerations
That every wound is a tale, weaved and swooned
Needles used to stitch with memories that itch
Etching unconscious beliefs into the pillars of the world that’s inner
That our inner children are screaming to be seen
Needed to be loved, to be protected from all that was mean
That kindness is the only cure
Consistent and pure
And that though compassion is endless, you still have to ration it
So it may dispensed when its truly ripened
That the pain is a life-partner 
Until integration of all that is darker
That time isn’t linear, but a spiral
Details dwindle, but every so often
Another angle will bring a wave that’s tidal
Floodgates will open and purging is emptying 
So the fog can life and you can see
That deep deep deep inside
At the center of the sadness ocean
There’s a jewelry box waiting to be opened
A set of gifts made just for you
Keys that were carved from the parts that were broken and chipped
From the times that you tripped
Fell over, got older
From the times you thought you couldn’t handle this any longer
The pressure from that contraction was the tension needed
To compress and distill your potion of mixed emotions
None of the energy was wasted
The medicine was bitter when you first tasted it
That the hardest lessons are waiting to be discovered
As the kind of blessings that deserved a pilgrimage of undressing
Layer after layer until you reached your naked essence
A soul, growing from its experience
Coming closer to understanding the flow of consciousness 
That you were there, but you are also the witness
And as you spin in time, the you that wast there changes
And so does the witness
Seeing it now with new eyes
With more stillness
You can see the nuances
The shades and shadows undulated in your perception 
Building up from that origin moment of conception
That this dynamic is pre-historic 
And the further you look behind
The more you will find
That to be present, is to combine
Being here, there, and in the moment that is all of time
That the resistance is persistent
Until you come to love 
That everything has a crack….
That’s how the light gets in 
Seeping slowly until the shadows are no longer frightening 
But can come our to share, knowing you will listen
To the parts that need space
You tell them there’s time
That they don’t have to hide or race
And with each passing moment of being seen
The space expands and uplifts the heavy bits
The waves are crashing, but if you see the rise before the breaks
You can choose to ride and let the force embrace
Dissolving the shame until the last trace
Then finally, you, your witness and your shadow can finally dance
